John's long and distinguished photojournalistic career began in 1954 when he joined Australia's largest circulation daily newspaper, the The Sun News-Pictorial, now the Herald-Sun. After 36 years and countless front page images he joined Leader Newspapers for a further 16 years. His multi award-winning images have earned him accolades including Australian Press Photographer of the Year, Australian Sports Picture of the Year and Most Popular Picture in the World Press Photo Contest. His news, sport and feature photography has taken him on assignment to 20 countries. He is also the author of the top-selling pictorial biography of the world's only gorilla born by artificial insemination - Mzuri, The Baby Gorilla. His photo library includes thousands of inspiring photos which evoke countless stories, illustrating an amazing journey and love affair with the camera that continues today.

Peter's ambition of becoming an architect was short lived once he discovered he had inherited his father's passion with a sharp eye for detail, aesthetic beauty, and quick reflexes. Learning the craft with fanatical perfectionism and graduating with distinction at Melbourne's RMIT (BA Applied Science in Photography) allowed his artistic vision to thrive, and he quickly earned a reputation as a creative and technically outstanding talent.
